DIY Yoga Mat Cleaner!
/Doing yoga every day (sometimes outside) means it needs a little cleaning every once in a while to get the dirt, sweat, and natural build up off. My dogs also like to join in on my yoga practice so naturally over time my yoga mat gets a little dirty.
Needing a cleaning I started doing some research online for an easy cheap yoga cleaner and found the easiest 5 minute yoga mat cleaner as well as a 15 minute deep cleaner!
5 minute mat cleaner:
What you need:
-8 oz spray bottle
-4 oz water
-2 oz rubbing alcohol
-15 drops of essential oil (optional)
Directions:
-Combine all ingredients listed above in your 8 oz spray bottle. Use the essential oils of your choice or leave it out if you don't mind the smell. I like Eucalyptus because its calming and has a clean smell.
-Unroll your yoga mat out in an area of your home that you don't mind getting wet (or put a towel under it).
-Shake your spray bottle vigorously and spray your mat generously.
-Wipe your mat with a dry cloth until the moisture is wiped up. (It will stay a little damp)
-leave out to dry (should take about an hour to dry fully)
So what if your yoga mat really needs a deep cleaning?
15 minute deep cleaner:
What you need:
-1/2 baking soda
-1/2 cup water (approx)
-Fresh lemon
Directions:
-Unroll your yoga mat out in an area of your home that you don't mind getting wet (or put a towel under it)
-In a bowl mix your baking soda and enough water to create a paste like substance.
-Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into the paste substance.
-You can add essential oils here if you want to but the lemon itself is enough to make it smell sweet! Some good options would be citrus oils.
-Spread the mixture all over your mat with your hands and let it sit until it dries (approx 1 5 minutes).
-Take your mat outside (or in the shower) and spray off the mixture.
-Lay your mat out and let it dry!
Easy cheesy lemon squeezy! (literally)
Much love!
